This picture was taken at Mars Opposition on August 6, 2018. At this time, Mars was closest to the earth (July 31, 2018 since 2003. Oppositon is a term used when the Earth , Mars, and the Sun are in a straight line with the earth in the middle. Opposition can occur with any plant outside of the earths orbit around the sun. Mars is the 4th planet from the sun.
